Ryan Stokes up, Maxime Tanguay down

In two separate transactions today, the Toledo Walleye lost defenseman Ryan Stokes and gained center Maxime Tanguay. Both moves were announced by their American Hockey League affiliates.

Team captain Ryan Stokes returned to the AHL, signing a professional tryout contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins, an affiliate of the Toledo Walleye and Detroit Red Wings. After beginning the season with the Walleye, Stokes was loaned to the Providence Bruins in the AHL earlier this month. The defenseman skated in three games, tallying four penalty minutes before he returned to Toledo.

Maxime Tanguay, younger brother of NHL star Alex Tanguay, has split the season between the Walleye and the Rockford IceHogs, an AHL affiliate of Toledo and the Chicago Blackhawks. He leads the Walleye in scoring, notching 11 goals and 19 assists between 26 games this season.

The red-hot Toledo Walleye look to continue their franchise-record winning streak to a phenomenal nine games as they visit the Wheeling Nailers on Thursday night. They return home to host the Kalamazoo Wings and ring in the new year on Friday, January 1, 2010.

The Lucas County Arena is also hosting high school hockey on New Year’s Day at 1:00 p.m. The Clay Eagles will take on the Anthony Wayne Generals at the Kyle Cannon Benefit Game, with proceeds going to assist local player Kyle Cannon, who is recovering from a severe spinal corn injury suffered during a hockey tournament in 2008.
